2020 Ford Edge Prices, Reviews, and Pictures

Overview

The Ford Edge, a stalwart in the mid-size, two row crossover market, is a strong contender. It has a quiet cabin, lots of standard features, and it’s still a solid competitor. The Ford Edge is the SUV’s best-selling five-seater, and it occupies the space between the new Escape and the Explorer. Although the interior is a little long, the seats and cabin are comfortable. There’s enough room to fit four adults comfortably. There are two powertrain options to suit your needs: the fuel-efficient 250 horsepower turbocharged four cylinder, or the Edge ST’s powerful twin-turbo V-6 with its class-leading 335 ponies and peppy twin-turbo V-6. All trims include Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite, which includes blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assistance. Automated emergency braking is also standard. Although it is difficult to tell if the Edge is coming or going by its exterior design, the progression of the trim levels enhances its curb appeal.

What’s new for 2020?

The 2020 Edge is largely unchanged after last year’s slight refresh. The Titanium’s interior is updated with the Elite package, which includes Brunello door inserts as well as brick-red stitching. All trims have dual-zone climate control, an 8.0 inch Sync 3 touchscreen and a 10-way power-adjustable driving seat. There is also reverse-sensing technology. The new color options include Atlas Blue, Dark Persian Green and Desert Gold, Iconic Silver Rapid Red, Star White, and Iconic Silver.

Although the Ford Edge ST’s 335-hp twin turbo V-6 engine is appealing, it’s not an affordable option for family transport. We’d choose the base SE, despite the appealing visual cues of Titanium and the SEL trims. It has the standard 8.0-inch display, power-adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, and now-standard 8.0 inch display. We’d save $1995 by opting for all-wheel drive, which comes at an additional $1995.

Engine, Transmission, & Performance

The base turbocharged four cylinder produces 250 horsepower. This should be enough power for most customers, despite the light acceleration. The Edge ST is an SUV that can match the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s acceleration from 0 to 60 mph. It also has a 335-hp twin turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine and standard all-wheel drive. Although it’s not as agile as the Mazda CX-9, which is our benchmark for crossover handling, the Edge is still enjoyable to drive. It has a comfortable ride and is easy to maneuver on uneven roads.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

The EPA rates four-cylinder models for up to 29 mpg on the highway, while the ST model earned a 26 mpg rating. Although we haven’t yet tested the four-cylinder model with the new eight-speed auto, the ST achieved 25 mpg on our 200-mile highway fuel economy loop, which is just 1 mpg less than its promise.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The Edge’s cabin has enough space for four adults and is ideal for either a commute or a long road trip. The cabin materials are well chosen. However, we found a few issues with the fit and finish of the panels. The interior design is minimalistic and minimal, and offers plenty of space for cargo and people. The two-row crossover segment, which can be used to store junk in the trunk, is a great helper. The Edge was able to hold 29 carry-on suitcases when the rear seats were folded. Although it is close in cargo space, its competitors are almost identical. However, the Edge’s clever storage cubbies as well as a slightly larger cabin may seal the deal.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Technophiles should upgrade their Edge to the Sync 3 infotainment software. The base system’s tiny screen and single USB port will not satisfy. The SEL offers more connectivity as it has an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Sync 3 software and AppLink. This allows you to connect apps from your smartphone to similar apps in the Sync software for entertainment on the move. This package also includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The standard feature of the range is a Wi-Fi hotspot.
